JOB DESCRIPTION
PART 2: JOB PURPOSE
It is a form of 2 or 3 sentences that sums up what the job is basically about and should
justify the existence of the job. It should clarify three things: a) What the job should do?;
b) To whom or what it should be done? and; c) How it supports the business?
Personnel’s responsibility as an application database administrator (DBA) will be to ensure
application related critical patches, database security patches are up to date. Ensure the
database performance is as expected, plan out housekeeping activities and execute them in a
timely manner to prevent any disruption to the business due to lack of space or any other
database issues. To monitor the database performance during month end batch execution to
ensure SLA’s are met. To advice the developers on any long running jobs and advice on any
execution plans or tuning required. To address database related issues if it impacts business
users and to see it through to resolution, keeping track of the issue, resolution and prevention
steps taken. To work closely with the Infrastructure team to ensure Vulnerability findings
reported by Security are managed and addressed up to resolution. To manage/assist during DR
activities for the supported application. To provide updates in a timely manner.
Assist team members in providing support on issues faced by users for the General Ledger
(GL), Accounts Payable (AP), Fixed Assets (FA), Financial Accounting Hub (FAH), application
Database related issues, monitoring batch loads & ensuring system’s stability for daily
operation.
To provide support for Oracle Application Database and any new application database acquired.
Analyze and provide ideas & recommendations on system’s enhancement / integration in
relation to the performance/database/application.
Ensure project deliverables to users within the stipulated timeline.
Assist in preparing papers for users during budget planning and also for budget drawdown.
